Hey!
Guess what awesome thing I did yesterday?
I fought a fire.
Yay!
Okay, well maybe it wasn't a huge fire, but we did more than the firefighters did!
I'll tell you all the story.
I was on my way back to Melbourne from Myrtleford with my mum and friend, just passing through Whorouly, when I saw smoke. I mentioned it, but thought nothing of it, although it was a really hot day, and there would have been a fireban in place. Anyway, my mum's conscience got the better of her and she turned around. We drove up, and found out that an electrical pole had sparked and set the grass alight around it. So, we got out and started to stomp the fire out, when another man pulled up in a car, obviously also seeing the smoke. So, he set off to get help while we continued with the fire.
It was too hot for us to just stamp out, so we ended up finding a soft eski container, a plastic bag and a towel. We scooped up water as fast as possible from a nearby drum next to the river, and wet the towel to beat the fire out. It was just reaching the fence and a tree, where it would most likely get dangerous if left alone. So, we were frantically making runs between the drum and the flames, throwing water here and there.
Finally, we got the fire out ...
... when two firetrucks turned up, with a whole lot of cars from neighbouring farms!
Nice timing.
Anyway, as soon as they turned up we left, so we didn't get to take all the credit for it.
Bummer.
And after singeing the hair on my left arm, a little of my eyelashes, the end of my ponytail and getting covered in ash, too!
Ah, well. I feel much better for it, anyway.
Okay, well I'm meant to be getting ready for Uni now.
So, TTFN.
